MINECRAFT! Nothing but Minecraft this semester and Minecraft robots (turtles). Each session will divide into teams and work together to survive on an island split into zones that vary in terrain, climate and available resources. The mod we will be working with: ComputerCraftEdu. The Challenge: to quickly create a sustainable community, players must get organized and split up duties.

Teams that make use of the in-game robots (turtles) to collect their resources will reap the most rewards. Resources will ultimately need to be traded between teams creating a barter system. To allow for the best planning and revisions to those plans, our sessions will begin with 10 minute team meetings before we get started on the computers. Which team ends up with best living conditions? Which resources end up being the most valuable and why?
We are also doing a variation of this challenge with some of our 5th grade classes this year. By signing up your child in this after school program, not only does your child get to have fun after school with friends but you also help broaden engaging learning opportunities for your child in the classroom and contribute to technology support at Baldwin. Sweeeeet!
Each session is limited to only 16 students. Sessions begin February 8th-10th. Sessions will run for 15 weeks. Last week will be May 23rd-25th.
Mondays: Girl’s Club (14 sessions = $280)
Tuesdays: Open to 1st graders and up (15 sessions = $300)
Wednesdays: Open to 1st graders and up (15 sessions = $300)
For those that were interested in working with Dash & Dot, we will enter the Wonder League Robotics Competition scheduled to begin next school year. That will be exciting! A great opportunity to code and get creative at the same time. Check out this year’s winners!
