register

Sessions begin January 25th.  Registration info will come out in early January.

Plans for next semester are being finalized and I will be mixing things up… as always.  All sessions this semester will give students an opportunity to continue to learn the basics of coding through use of Dash & Dot or through Minecraft.  Registration links will be available soon.  An announcement will be made in our weekly school newsletter (the ROAR) when open registration for new members is available so subscribe to the ROAR if you haven’t.  Do not wait for flyers to come home because they never will.  Your children and I will use paper resources but in more creative ways!

Mondays – Girl’s Club:  We will be doing a combination of things this year.  Our girls will form teams and enter the Wonder League Robotics Competition where they will complete a series of missions, create videos that will be uploaded to YouTube, and compete against 1000+ teams from across the country!  This will involve not only learning some basics of coding but opportunities for creativity and play.  Legos, cardboard, markers, tape, video, special effects and maybe even a little glitter will all be part of this journey!  Check out the video entries from last year’s competition.  Winners even receive prizes!  Let’s do this girls!!

Tuesdays Wonder League Robotics Competition:  We will form 2-3 teams to participate in this newly created robotics competition open to students in 2nd grade and up!  Teams must complete the assigned missions but also get creative in their filmed presentations that will be uploaded to YouTube where they will be competing against 1000+ teams from across the country.  We have tons of Legos, cardboard, markers, tape and video tools to make this rock. Check out the video entries from last year’s competition to get inspired.  Winners receive awesome prizes too!

Wednesday – MINECRAFT!  Nothing but Minecraft and robots (turtles).  Students will have to divide into teams and try their best to survive on an island split into zones.  Mods we will be working with include ComputerCraftEdu and more.  Challenge: to create a civilization and thrive on an island of luxury,  players must get organized and split up duties.  Teams that make use of the in-game robots (turtles) for menial tasks will reap the most rewards.  To create the best planning and strategy, our sessions will begin with 15 minute team break out sessions before we get started on the computers.  Which team ends up with the living conditions that can best support the largest amount of citizens?  Inventories must be taken.  Math must be done.

Stay tuned…
